Our Endorsements–Primary Election Thursday Sept. 13

September 11, 2018 by Michael Castelluccio

Candidates in the 2018 Primary Election

Julie Goldberg
First and Foremost we are endorsing Julie Goldberg for New York State Senate in the 38th District. (Our endorsement follows below, and Julie’s website is Juliefornysenate.com.

Cynthia Nixon
We are endorsing Cynthia Nixon who is challenging the incumbent Governor Cuomo for the Democratic nomination in the primary. (Our endorsement follows below, and the candidate’s website is Cynthiafornewyork.com.

Zephyr Teachout
We are endorsing Zephyr for Attorney General for the State of New York. She is in a four-way contested primary for the Democratic nomination. (Our endorsement follows below, and the candidate’s website is Zephyrforny.com.

Vivian Street
There is also a contested race for the female Member of the State Committee of the Democrat Party in the 97th Assembly District. We are backing Vivian Street of Spring Valley for that position. If Ellen Jaffee is your Assemblywoman then you can vote for Vivian Street in the Democratic primary at your regular polling place.

ROBERT ROMANOWSKI FOR RAMAPO TOWN COUNCIL
Bob is conducting a opportunity to ballot write in campaign for Ramapo Town Council in the Green and Reform Party primaries. If you are a member of the Green or Reform Party you can vote for Robert in your party primary on Thursday September 13th by filling in the oval on the Write In box on the ballot and then writing Robert Romanowski inside the space provided.

It is important to point out that registered voters who have no party affiliation, designated “NOP” by the board of elections, and generally known as “independents”, are permitted to cast ballots in the Reform Party primary.  This being the case, “NOP” s, aka independents, can vote for Robert Romanowski in the Reform Party primary on Thursday, September 13th, again by filling in the oval on the Write In box on the ballot and then writing Robert Romanowski inside the space provided in that same Write In box.

ERNEST BUONOCORE FOR SUFFERN VILLAGE JUSTICE.
We are endorsing Ernest Buonocore for Suffern Village Justice. Candidates for judicial office are permitted to run in any party primary they wish regardless of their own party affiliation. Ernest and his opponent have a contested primary for every party ballot line including Republican, Democrat, Conservative, Green, Working Families, Independence, Women’s Equality and Reform Party.
Again, it is important to note that registered voters who have no party affiliation, designated “NOP”s by the board of elections, and generally known as “independents”, are permitted to cast ballots in the Reform Party primary.  Such being the case, any registered voter can cast a ballot for Ernest in their respective party primary, or as an independent “NOP”, in the Reform Party primary.

INDIVIDUAL ENDORSEMENTS

JULIE GOLDBERG
We strongly endorse Julie Goldberg for state senate in the 38th District.  Julie Goldberg has the integrity, the intellect, and an ideal resume to represent us in Albany. Julie attended public school K-12 and graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in English, as well as her teaching certification. She’s also earned advanced degrees in Education and in Information Science. Julie was a public-school teacher for many years as well as a reference librarian at Finkelstein Memorial Library in Spring Valley. She is now the Educational Media Specialist for Northern Highlands Regional High School in Allendale, NJ.

Julie’s life experience embodies a cross cultural perspective that makes her an excellent candidate for state senator in the 38th district. Her late father was Jewish and her mother is Irish-American. She has lived in Chestnut Ridge, NY for the past sixteen years with her husband Martin Springer and their children, now 18 and 21. Her family attended Reconstructionist Temple Beth Israel in NJ, where Julie served on the Board. Julie also holds dual U.S. and Irish citizenship, due to her mother’s ancestry.

All of this provides her with the essential insight and understanding so necessary to unifying the different communities of interest within the 38th district and bringing about solutions that serve the greater good.

Preserve Ramapo has no intention of endorsing David Carlucci, in the general election.

Carlucci is an effective campaigner but cannot be trusted. He poses as a progressive Democrat, but he has not been a reliable supporter of public education.  Behind the scenes, he supports the large developers who have done so much to destroy responsible housing in Ramapo.

Carlucci’s work experience is scant at best. He’s been running for office nearly nonstop since graduating from college, and has been in the Senate for eight years now. To their credit, the people of Clarkstown (Carlucci’s home town) recently enacted term limits for elected officials that prevents them from serving more than eight years. The voters of the 38th district should hold Carlucci to the same term of office by voting for Julie Goldberg on September 13th.

Carlucci has received all of the bloc vote in his last three elections, and he will do so again in the upcoming Democratic primary. This makes it impossible for us to endorse him in the general election. Having Carlucci on the ballot as the Democratic nominee in November will put Preserve Ramapo in a very difficult position.

Democrats, if you want our support in the general election, we ask and we hope that you will give your vote to Julie Goldberg in the Democratic Primary on Thursday, September 13th.

ROBERT ROMANOWSKI FOR RAMAPO TOWN COUNCIL
We also endorse Robert Romanowski for Ramapo Town Council. Bob needs no introduction to anyone and everyone with a connection to the political and civic affairs of Ramapo. For many years straight, he has been acting as town crier for the Ramapo resistance by attending nearly every single Town Board meeting, taking detailed notes and disseminating the same to key players in the struggle against corruption. This tremendous display of public service and personal sacrifice has often been the only advanced warning of malfeasance, misconduct and dysfunction in Ramapo Town Hall, but also gives Robert a clear and comprehensive understanding of how the Town Board should and should not operate. We cannot envision a more qualified or worthy candidate for Ramapo Town Council than Robert Romanowski.

Bob’s opponent is Yehuda Weissmandl who has served on the East Ramapo School Board since 2011, and as its chairman since 2014. He is also a developer of high density housing in the Town of Ramapo. Par for the course for candidates like Weissmandl, is the fact that he will post no resume or list of credentials, attend no debates or candidate forums, nor make any other public campaign appearances. If elected he will answer only to the leaders of his own community and ignore the needs of the remainder of Ramapo.

Robert is running an opportunity to ballot write in campaign for the Green Party and the Reform Party, to ensure that Weissmandl does not run unopposed.

Please come out and write in Robert Romanowski for Ramapo Town Council in the Green and Reform Party Primary on Thursday September 13th.

VIVIAN STREET FOR MEMBER OF THE STATE DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE IN THE 97TH ASSEMBLY DISTRICT
We are happy to endorse Vivian Street to be a member of the State Democratic Committee in the 97th Assembly District, or Ellen Jaffee’s district. Vivian is a long-time community activist in the Village of Spring Valley and has been very active in the Spring Valley Chapter of the NAACP for many years. She is without question the best choice for this position. If you are a registered Democrat and Ellen Jaffe is your Assemblywoman, then you can vote for Vivian in the Democratic primary to be held this Thursday, September 13th. Please remember to vote for Vivian Street for State Committee Member in the 97th Assembly district when you go out to vote for the other races on the ballot in the Democratic Primary.

ERNEST S. BUONOCORE FOR SUFFERN VILLAGE JUSTICE
Ernest S. Buonocore is running for reelection. We endorsed Judge Buonocore in 2014, when he first won election as Suffern Village Justice and he has held that office full time since then. Ernest Buonocore is exactly the kind of candidate we need in places like Suffern, Ramapo and across Rockland county. He has the integrity, experience and independent spirit that appeals to voters across the political spectrum. Judge Buonocore is above and beyond the reach of any partisan political pressure based upon the desires of influential individuals or special interests. This fact frees him to focus on the merits of a given case and render a fair decision.

Born at Good Samaritan Hospital and raised in Rockland County, Ernest currently resides in the village of Suffern where he owns a home and has lived for the past 16 years, raising a family and keeping a household. His four children attend Suffern schools and he is an active member of the Suffern community. You can check out his campaign Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Re-Elect-Judge-Buonocore-as-Suffern-Village-Justice-1191081974364612/.

Candidates for judicial office are permitted to run in any party primary they wish regardless of their own party affiliation. Ernest and his opponent have a contested primary for every party ballot line including Republican, Democrat, Conservative, Green, Working Families, Independence, Women’s Equality and Reform Party. It is important to note that registered voters who have no party affiliation, designated “NOP” s by the board of elections, and generally known as “independents”, are permitted to cast ballots in the Reform Party primary. Such being the case, any registered voter can cast a ballot for Ernest in their respective party primary, or as an independent “NOP”, in the Reform Party primary.

Whatever your party affiliation please come out and vote for Judge Ernest Buonocore for Suffern Village Justice on Thursday, September 13th.

STATEWIDE CANDIDATES

Please support Cynthia Nixon for Governor and Zephyr Teachout for Attorney General of New York. Both women will bring energy and integrity to Albany which for the last number of years has been controlled by a political machine run by “three in a room.” Two of these power brokers have, as you know, been driven from office following corruption trials. That leaves Governor Cuomo who collaborated with those others for years and has himself escaped an investigation, which he personally shut down. It is time for a long overdue change.
