“A mile-plus stretch of Route 45, from Eckerson Road to New Hempstead Road, is being named “The Jared Lloyd Memorial Highway.”
The naming honors the Spring Valley volunteer firefighter who was killed March 23, 2021, as he tried to rescue residents in a massive fire at Evergreen Court Home For Adults in Spring Valley. Lloyd was a member of Columbian Fire Engine Co. No. 1 and among some 125 volunteer firefighters to respond to the fire at the adult home. The 35-year-old was a father of two young boys.
An Evergreen resident also died in the blaze; 112 residents were rescued due to volunteers’ actions, including Lloyd’s.”
“The street renaming legislation was by introduced by Sen. Elijah Reichlin-Melnick, Assemblymen Ken Zebrowski and Michael Lawler. Gov. Kathy Hochul signed the bill June 30. “We are truly grateful that Rockland County has recognized the impact that Jared has left on this community,” said Sabrail Davenport, Lloyd’s mother. “And this renaming of the roadway confirms that.”
